4th IEEE International Smart Cities Conference

During September 16-19, 2018 the 4th IEEE International Smart Cities Conference will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. This is the flagship conference of the IEEE Smart Cities Technical Community of which the IEEE SMC Society is a member. A panel session held on September 17th as part of the opening plenary session will feature Prof. Loi Lei Lai, IEEE SMC Representative to IEEE Smart Cities along with representatives from other IEEE Smart Cities partners. Professor Lai will address the topic of “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Smart Grids for Smart Cities.”

Title:

Artificial Intelligence Applications in Smart Grids for Smart Cities

Summary:

As a result of information technology advancement and its deep integration with the electric power industry, the smart grid forms a solid foundation to build the smart city. Meanwhile, the construction of smart city will also greatly stimulate the enormous potential of the smart grid. City managers must be fully aware of the potential of the smart grid, so that smart urban construction can play an important role. It is expected that with the continuous advancement of technology, smart grid and smart city construction will mutually promote and facilitate each other.

In this talk, what is smart grid for smart city will be explained. The reason and possibility of getting a low-carbon economy will be discussed. Some real-life examples in applying artificial intelligence techniques to power and energy systems and devices will be reported. Challenges and opportunities for Artificial Intelligence applied in energy Internet applications will be looked at. The way forward will be discussed.
