Assistant/Associate Professor Position Opening at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. We seek a passionate individual with demonstrated potential to establish a strong externally funded research program and contribute to the teaching excellence in the core undergraduate and graduate curricula of the department. Candidates should have active research programs that are methodologically innovative and tied to one or more compelling application domains. Areas of particular interest include large-scale predictive and/or prescriptive analytics, learning and decision-making for real-time control and adaptation, and distributed autonomous systems, though other areas are encouraged.

Applications domains may extend or complement the department’s work in critical infrastructure, community resilience and supply chains. There will also be opportunities to participate in Institute-wide research initiatives such as the Institute for Data Exploration and Applications (IDEA) and the Cognitive and Immersive Systems Lab (CISL).

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field.

Academic or other relevant professional experience beyond the Doctoral degree is preferred. Candidates for Associate Professor must have at least six years of experience, a proven record in attracting funding and conducting outstanding research, a strong commitment to education, evidence of effective teaching, and commensurate academic credentials to qualify for a tenured faculty appointment at Rensselaer.

The ISE department awards the following degrees: B.S. in Industrial and Management Engineering, which was first established in 1933; M.S./M.Eng. in Industrial and Management Engineering; M.S./M.Eng. in Systems Engineering and Technology Management; and Ph.D. in Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems. The Department is highly interdisciplinary, with strong education and research connections with Computer Science, Mathematical Science, Cognitive Science, Management, and other engineering disciplines. The Department has 12 faculty, 180 undergraduates and 18 Ph.D. students. ISE is one of the seven departments in the School of Engineering, which has approximately 160 faculty, 3500 undergraduates, and 480 graduate students.
