Call for Nominations for 2014 SMCS Awards

Nominations and supporting letters are now being accepted for 2014 SMCS Awards. Please submit Nominations for SMC Society Awards by June 15, 2014

using the Award Nomination Form (DOC) to the Awards Committee Chair. Supporting letters are required for the Joseph G. Wohl Award and the Norbert Wiener Award and are optional for the other awards.

Norbert Wiener Award

Description: To recognize significant contributions to research in systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics.
Eligibility: No restriction.

Joseph G. Wohl Outstanding Career Award

Description: To recognize outstanding professional service and/or contributions to systems engineering concepts, methodology, design, education, or management.

Eligibility: IEEE members.

Outstanding Contribution Award

Description: To recognize significant contributions and outstanding service to the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.
Eligibility: Members of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.

Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award

Description: To recognize the best oral presentation and paper at the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Conference.
Eligibility: No restriction. Presentation by the author of an accepted paper at the annual SMC conference.

Andrew P. Sage Best Transactions Paper Award

Description: To recognize the authors of the best paper published annually in the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (SMC).
Eligibility: Authors of papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics during the previous calendar year.

IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Best Student Paper Award

Description: To recognize the best oral presentation and paper by a student at the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Conference.
Eligibility: The presenter must be a major contributor to both the written paper and the results described in the paper, and a student when the paper was completed.

IEEE SMC Best Associate Editor Award

Description: To recognize the best Associate Editor of the SMC Transactions. At most one Associate Editor will be chosen from each of the SMC Society’s Transactions.
Eligibility: Associate editors of journals published by the SMC Society.

IEEE Most Active SMC Technical Committee Award

Description: To recognize the most active SMC Technical Committee. Up to three awards per year with a maximum of one Technical Committee each chosen from Cybernetics, Human-Machine Systems, and Systems Science and Engineering.
Eligibility: SMCS Technical Committees that have not received the award during the past three years.

IEEE Outstanding SMC Chapter Award

Description: To recognize the best SMC Chapter that has consistently shown outstanding leadership and service to its member. Up to three awards with at most one Chapter chosen from Regions 1-7 and 9, at most one Chapter chosen from Region 8, and at most one Chapter chosen from Region 10.

Eligibility: SMCS Chapters that have not received this award during the past three years.

IEEE Outstanding SMCS Student Branch Chapter Award

Description: To recognize the SMC Student Branch Chapter that has consistently shown outstanding leadership and service to its members.
Eligibility: Open to all SMC Student Branch Chapters that have not received an award within the past three years.

IEEE SMC Lotfi A. Zadeh Pioneer Award

Description: To honor a person or persons with outstanding and pioneering contributions to academic and/or industrial research in systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics.
Eligibility: No restriction. An awardee may be a non-IEEE member.

IEEE SMC Early Career Award

Description: To recognize outstanding scientists or engineers who, early in their career, contributed to major advancements of theory, technologies, and/or applications of systems science & engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics.
Eligibility: Any scientist or engineer in systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics who is an IEEE Young Professional member, or who is not over 35 years old in the calendar year when the recipient of the award is selected, is eligible.

IEEE SMC Meritorious Service Award

Description: To recognize meritorious and significant service to any SMC Society-sponsored activity.
Eligibility: Open to any person who has contributed to any SMC sponsored activity.

IEEE SMC Outstanding Service to Humanity Award

Description: To recognize technical and professional achievements or endeavors of an engineer or scientist in systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics that have resulted in a significant impact on humanity.
Eligibility: Any engineer or scientist in the field of systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and/or cybernetics is eligible.
