Technical Committee on Self-organized Distributed and Pervasive Systems.
TC Chair:

Professor Huaglory Tianfield
, School of Engineering and Built Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University; United Kingdom  ([email protected])

SCOPE

The TC  is focused on Cloud Computing and Services and the future Internet of Things (IoT). Clouds and IoT systems are two of the very forefront technologies that are revolutionizing our work, living and developments and are calling for comprehensive multi-disciplinary collaborations and innovations from a broad spectrum of technology areas of computing, communications, networks, embedded systems, distributed systems, cybernetics, self-organized and self-adaptive systems, and much more.

Today's distributed and networked systems, saturated with large-scale communications and computing, have become increasingly complex. New solutions are urgently required to effectively tackle the soaring complexities of such systems. Our SODPS TC aims to explore fundamental methodologies and technologies for engineering self-organized distributed and networked computing and communications systems. Of particular interest are the following areas:

. cloud computing and services,
. context-aware computing,
. Internet of Things, ubiquitous/pervasive computing,
. multi-agent and distributed simulation,
. security challenges in cloud computing and Internet of Things,
. security challenges in wireless communications and mobile computing,
. service-oriented computing, web services,
. situated and autonomic communications,
. wireless ad hoc networking, autonomic networking.

Our SODPS TC aims to be the focal forum worldwide for academics and practitioners active in the frontiers of self-organized distributed and pervasive systems. We warmly welcome and highly value your support and involvement in the Technical Committee, which in return will provide you with a global network of excellence and a wide spectrum of collaboration opportunities in the community, e.g., in editing Journal special issues and book series, and organizing invited sessions and workshops which are technically supported by the Technical Committee. In particular, we organize Special Sessions, Workshops and/or Tutorial Sessions at the annual IEEE SMCS conferences, and contribute towards the technical initiatives of IEEE SMCS and technical activities of IEEE SMCS chapters around the world.

DATE STARTED

We have been active under the current name -- SODPS since November 2009. Through our initiatives and activities, we have seen huge potential for our SODPS TC to play in promoting emerging multi-disciplinary technologies of Cloud Computing and future Internet of Things across the IEEE SMCS community. We are confident to make great success in this regard.

GOALS FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

Our SODPS TC's goals for the near future are two folds.

Regarding membership, we aim to engage more members from underrepresented regions especially South Africa, Middle East, Asia, and South Asia. Also we will make best efforts to engage the best people who are active in our targeted thematic areas, i.e., Cloud Computing and future Internet of Things. We will particularly engage members from industry.

Regarding  promoting technology advancements and raising public awareness, our SODPS TC aims to build upon SMCS's scientific impacts and research leaderships in our targeted thematic areas, i.e., Cloud Computing and future Internet of Things.

To achieve these goals, we will take full advantage of the annual SMC conferences as an influential platform. We will invest our best efforts in organizing special sessions on Cloud Computing and future Internet of Things at SMC conferences.

We will also reach out and make our SODPS TC's presence to the major international conferences in Cloud Computing and future Internet of Things. By this way, we are confident to attract "new bloods" in to our SODPS TC and ultimately to IEEE SMCS.

THREE MOST IMPORTANT PAPERS SINCE THE BEGINNING THE COMMITTEE.

The following 3 articles provide a good introductory overview and tutorial to the general technical contexts of our SODPS TC. They have become widely cited outside SMCS community, which will in turn attract people into SMCS community.
