Our Goal
Enterprise information system (EIS), also known as Enterprise Systems (ES), has become increasingly popular over the last several decades. The discipline is transformational in the way it integrates and extends business processes across the boundaries of business functions, corporate walls, industries, as well as geographic borders. In 2005, IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Enterprise Information Systems (TCEIS) was proposed by Dr. Li Da Xu to the IEEE SMC Society via Dr. Hideyuki Takagi. TCEIS was formally approved and established in 2007. Dr. Philip Chen served as the co-chair from 2007 to 2009, which provided a solid framework. Dr. Mengchu Zhou served as the co-chair from 2007 to 2015 and continued to advance the institution. The Enterprise Information Systems journal was launched in 2007.In 2019, the TC was enlarged to incorporate the activities of the former TC of Enterprise Architecture and Engineering, and included its members. Enterprise Architecture (EA) is described as a means to cope with organizations’ ever-increasing complexity by ensuring that organizations appropriately use and optimize their technical resources. EA is therefore seen as an integrated and holistic vision of an enterprise’s fundamental organization, embodied in its elements (people, processes, applications, etc.), their relationships to each other and to the environment, and the principles guiding its design and evolution. Enterprise Engineering (EE) is defined the engineering skills and activities necessary to construct and implement enterprise architecture.
The primary objective of the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Enterprise Information Systems (TCEIS) is to provide an international forum that brings together professionals working within this interdisciplinary area. From this forum, the central objective is to promote research, development, technical innovation, and international collaboration in the area of EIS/ES/EA/EE through a discipline framework as Industrial Information Integration Engineering. The Journal of Industrial Information Integration was launched in 2016.
