Honours for Keith Hipel, FCAE, FRSC.
Carl Haas, FCAE, a colleague of Keith, has recently sent the following correspondence:
"It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of his colleagues at the University of Waterloo, to let you know about the absolutely outstanding recent accomplishments of Keith Hipel. As you are likely aware, Keith is a University Professor at UW, and he became this year the current President of the Academy of Science, Royal Society of Canada. He will hold this position for two years and then will act for a year as the Past President. In addition to this, Keith received the following honours in 2013:
Faculty of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award for 2012 from the Faculty of Engineering in conjunction with the Sanford Fleming Foundation based in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The award was officially presented at the Faculty of Engineering Faculty and Staff Awards Dinner on Thursday October 10, 2013.
Honorary Diplomate, Water Resources Engineers (Hon.D.WRE) in the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE), which is a subsidiary of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). On May 13, 2013, Dr. Robert G. Traver informed K.W. Hipel that he was selected unanimously for this prestigious award, which is AAWRE's highest honor given to an individual.
Doctor Honoris Causa from Obuda University for exceptional contributions to the development of Systems Engineering methodologies with applications in multiple domains at a ceremony which took place on July 1, 2013, in Budapest.
2013 Group Decision and Negotiation Section Award within the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The award is for "outstanding contributions to research in the field of Group Decision and Negotiation (GDN) and/or outstanding contributions to the GDN Section." The award was officially presented to Hipel on June 19th, 2013, at the conference banquet of the international conference, GDN 2013, which was held in Stockholm, Sweden from June 17th to 21st, 2013.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Eminent Scientist Award which is bestowed upon "foreign researchers such as Nobel laureates, who possess a record of excellent research achievements and who are mentors and leaders in their respective fields", to visit "Japan for the purpose of associating directly with younger Japanese researchers so as to mentor, stimulate and inspire them to greater attainments. The awardees may also be asked to contribute their advice and expertise on ways to enhance the planning, conducting and evaluating of scientific research at Japanese universities and research institutions." Under this award which he initially received in 2012, Hipel delivered invited research seminars and provided research advice in Japan during March of 2013 and will do so again during February and March of 2014.
