IEEE SMC Society Taipei Chapter

Taichung Chapter, IEEE SMCS, is proud to announce its establishment starting March 4, 2009, and with the following five executive members: Prof. Ching-Chih Tsai of National Chung Hsing University as the Chair, Prof. Alan Liu of National Chung Cheng University as the Vice Chair, Prof. Ken-Li Wen of Chienkuo Technological University as the Executive Director, Dr. Shui-Chun Lin of National Chin-Yi University of Technology as the Sectary General, and Dr. Yuan-Pao Hsu of National Formosa University as the Financial Director. Our vision is to promote the SMC society in the central Taiwan area, and the goals of the Chapter this year are to boost the membership, to enhance friendship among members, to foster academic cooperation among members, and to host some events to bring the academia and industries together. During the first two quarters of 2009, the chapter has hosted the following events:

  • Seminar by Prof. Keith W. Hipel of University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and also the IEEE SMCS Distinguished Lecturer in 2009.
  • Seminar by Prof. Kosuge Kazuhiro of Tohoku University, Japan, and also the President-elect of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
  • Workshop by Prof. Dietmar Dietrich of Vienna University of Technology, Austria.
  • Seminar by Prof. Yuan Yan Tang of Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong-Kong, and also the Chair of Technical Committee on Machine Learning in IEEE SMCS.
  • Short Course lectured by Prof. C. L. Philip Chen of University of Texas, San Antonio, USA, and also the Vice President on Technical Activities in Systems Science and Engineering of IEEE SMCS.

For the upcoming months, these are the events that the chapter is involved:

  • To technically co-sponsor 2009 National Symposium on System Science and Engineering (NSSSE’09).
  • To technically co-sponsor 2009 International Automatic Control Conference held by Chinese Automatic Control Society.
  • To technically co-sponsor 2009 National Symposium on Fuzzy Theory and Its Applications.
  • To organize two special sessions, including 17 papers, for 2009 International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics.
  • To technically co-sponsor 2010 International Conference on System Science and Engineering, Taipei, Taiwan.
  • To technically co-sponsor SICE 2010 Annual Conference of the Society of Instrumentation and Control Engineers (SICE), Japan.
